iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max: the first titanium iPhones debut action button and the most advanced processor in the industry
Apple has just presented, along with the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Series 9 in its Keynote the iPhone 15 Pro, the renewal of its flagship product in the premium range. A design that draws on the previous generation, although with a big change regarding the button panel. The final goodbye to the Lightning port. The most used screen frames on an iPhone and finished in titanium.
These are all the features and specifications of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, two a priori discreet renewals, but with relevant changes for all those willing to make the jump to the new models.

Design: titanium and refinement by flag
The iPhone 15 Pro has a new finish, replacing the stainless steel of the previous generation with titanium. It promises to be much lighter and stronger, with new, more rounded edges. This new material also allows for better thermal dissipation. When we turn it over, we find reduced bezels that allow us to slightly reduce its size. The chassis and structure of the phone have also been improved, made of 100% recycled aluminum and with an aluminum frame that allows the rear glass to be replaced more easily.
The big change in design, however, comes with the new customizable action button. By default it is still a volume switch that changes between silent/sound when pressed. However, it can be customized to open the camera, start recordings or even shortcuts.
Like last year, we will have iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, with sizes of 6.1 and 6.7 inches. It maintains XDR panels with the same resolution, HDR and Dolby Vision. As there is no progress here, the brightness figures are comparable to the iPhone 15: 2,000 nits of peak brightness and 1,600 nits for HDR content.
Huge power to compete with the best
The new iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max arrive with a new processor: the Apple A17 Bionic. It is the first processor in the industry with three nanometers, with what they promise are the most advanced 19 billion transistors of the moment. The GPU is the fastest on any phone and the CPU (10% faster) is configured with two high-performance and six high-efficiency cores. The Neural Engine is 16 times faster than the previous generation.
This SoC continues to use ray tracing to improve scenes, promising to be more efficient than the last generation and four times faster. It has a specific driver for USB, with transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps (USB 3 speeds). This A17 Pro also includes a dedicated AV1 decoder. This opens the door to improvements in video playback.
There are no changes in autonomy, promising the same reproduction figures as the last generation. Apple does not reveal battery capacities, but similar figures are expected.
A renewed camera system
The camera is still 48 megapixels, the same as last year’s model. They are the only iPhone capable of shooting in ProRAW, and they debut a higher resolution function. Now we can shoot in a 48 megapixel mode and HEIF format that promises greater sharpness, apart from the usual 12 megapixel mode with pixel binning.
The iPhone 15’s portrait improvements also reach the Pro, with an automatic depth map when it detects that there are people in the scene. Later, in the gallery, we can change the focus of the scene.
The Smart HDR algorithm has been improved, promising better control in highlights. The iPhone 15 Pro Max debuts a completely new telephoto lens, a 5x optical zoom with a focal range of 120mm and f/2.8 aperture. The iPhone 15 Pro continues with the telephoto lens of “only” three magnifications, the same distance we saw last year.
Video recording can be done in ProRes 4K 60 FPS and, thanks to the C port with USB 3, it can be recorded directly to a hard drive. It is capable of recording in log format, a fairly flat format that facilitates editing and grading (color editing) in post-production.
They also debut the “spatial video” function, capable of capturing video with all three cameras simultaneously. It is designed to be able to play this format on the Apple Vision Pro and it is a function that will arrive at the end of the year.
